Doc Watson - 1991 - Black Mountain Rag. I've
included Doc's introduction and explanation of his
background with this particular tune.
I've always loved the interesting anecdote that
Doc developed his now legendary flatpicking style
while playing a Les Paul (electric solid body
guitar) while he was playing in a Rockabilly band
in the 1950's. Additionally, I've heard that he
actually didn't even own an acoustic guitar at
that time.
It's interesting that this style has since become
associated with, nearly exclusively, acoustic
guitars, particularly Martin dreadnoughts.
I've always wondered what kind of reception a
picker would get at the National Flatpicking
Contest in Winfield Kansas if he were to show up
to compete with a Les Paul in hand! Tags :DocWatson1991BlackMountainRagGuitarInstrumentalFlatpickingBluegrassFiddleTuneFolk
