| High school bullies get a good beating |
 |
Spirit of Jeet Kune Do: Once Upon a Time in High
School (Korean: 말죽거리 잔혹사) is a 2004
South Korean drama/action film. The background of
the film was set in a high school in South Korea,
1978.
Kwon, who starred as Hyun-soo, transfers to
another school. He is sent to a bottom-rank class
and experiences violence in classroom by the group
of gangsters in his class, led by Jong-hun, who is
a stereotypical Korean bully in school. The
teachers are also depicted as authoritarian to the
students, using violence to the students for the
sake of discipline, as did most Korean teachers in
the 70s and to some extent in the modern days as
well.
Hyun-soo, after a failed relationship with Eunjoo,
decides that he will no longer put up with the
conduct of Jong-hun and his boys as well as the
harsh and violent disciplinary techniques being
put up by the teachers, trained himself up in Jeet
Kune Do by himself. His father, a martial artist,
frequently resorted to minor violence to
discipline his son.
Hyun-soo challenged Jong-hun to a duel one day
when he was no longer able to put up with his
behaviour. Jong-hun and his men were grievously
injured from Hyun-soo's whips. Hyun-soo left the
military school voluntarily immediately after the
duel, and his father subsequently transferred him
to a private academy.
Hyun-soo met his friend Hamburger again at the
college and talked about their past. Jackie Chan's
1978 movie Drunken Master was featured in the
background at the end of the movie as Hamburger
and Hyun-soo played a fighting game in front of
the cinema complex. Tags : highschool bullies retribution retaliation vengeance |

| School Bullies - Japan |
 |
Feb 1996
"A lot of children crack up under the pressure and
there are a lot of negative things that happen
like bullying."
The Hiranos' son committed suicide after he was
bullied at a new school. The school authorities
made no comment. Satoru Ikeda, teacher, thinks
that many students have lost their identity
because of a harsh education system in Japan which
does not tolerate individuality. Rosalind Brown,
English teacher, was shocked by the sight of young
children wearing only a pair of shorts. Even in
cold weather the children stand in the playground
in rows and rub each other's back to keep warm. If
children walk around from February to November
with a bare belly they win a certificate. Inside
the class room they stand and recite English
phrases in unison. To get into a better high
school and a good university, children also attend
evening classes. They enjoy themselves afterwards
by going to McDonalds for a coke and doing their
homework together. Noriko Nagasaki opposes the
education system and says that most parents are
afraid to protest in case it affects their
children's' exam results. Tags : Japan School Bullies Ethics journeyman pictures |

Many adolescents face being potential victims of
violence in their communities, schools and homes
on a daily basis. For some young people, those
external threats create a hopelessness and
depression that can lead to suicidal thoughts or
actions.
The spike in teen suicides in the United States is
staggering. In 1950 the rate of suicide for 15-19
year-olds was 2.7 per 100,000. Two generations
later, in 1990, the rate had increased to 11:1; a
jump of more than 300 percent. Current statistics
suggest that a young person in America attempts to
take his or her life every 42 seconds.
Though few would argue that bullying alone is to
blame, the current literature includes many
references to students being driven to suicide by
peer abuse. In 2003, the journal Adolescence
published a study on bullying and victimization
which describes how "exposure to repeated insults
and rejection by peers can generate deadly results
such as suicide or homicide." Clearly, ongoing
victimization can create or exacerbate adolescent
depression and low self-esteem, perhaps raising
the risk of a suicide attempt.
Bullying is not isolated only in schools. It
happens in work, in church, and in other arenas in
life.

| Glenn Beck and NewsBusters Expose Global Warming Bullies |
 |
Last week, the BBC ran an article talking about
how global temperatures haven't increased since
1998--an objective fact. But facts don't matter to
the environmentalist wacko crowd. Angry about the
article, an activist threatened the BBC reporter
who caved almost immediately and censored himself.
Video is of NewsBusters associate editor Noel
Sheppard on the April 8, 2008 edition of "Glenn
Beck" on CNN Headline News discussing media bias
on global warming. Tags : glenn beck global warming environmentalism climate alarmism newsbusters news |
