Byblos (βύβλος) is the Greek name of the
Phoenician city Gebal (earlier Gubla). It is a
Mediterranean city in the Mount Lebanon
Governorate of present-day Lebanon under the
current Arabic name of Jbeil (جبيل Ǧubayl).
According to fragments attributed to the
semi-legendary pre-Trojan war Phoenician historian
Sanchuniathon, it was the first city ever built,
and even today is believed by many to be the
oldest continuously-inhabited city in the world
It was known to the ancient Egyptians as Keben and
Kepen (probably pronounced */g-b-l/ or Gubla). The
Greeks apparently called it Byblos because it was
through Gebal that bublos (βύβλος ["Egyptian
papyrus"]) was imported into Greece. Although it
is still referred to as Byblos by scholars, the
city is now known by the Arabic name Jubayl or
Jbeil (جبيل), a direct descendant of the
Canaanite name.
جبيل (أو بيبلوس ) هي مدينة
فينيقية يطلق عليها حاليا
جبيل علي ساحل البحر الأبيض
المتوسط شمال بيروت بلبنان.
وأطلق عليها الآشوريون
والبابليون جبلة، بينما يرد
اسمها بالعبرية في الكتاب
المقدس: גְבַל (گـْڤال).
وكانت ميناءا هاما للتبادل
التجاري مع مصر في العصر
البرونزي حيث كانت تستورد
منه خشب الأرز ق.م. وكانت
بيبلوس أهم ميناء لدي
الفينيقيين. وكانت مصر تصدر
إليه ورق البردى ومنه كانوا
يصدرونه لبلاد الإغريق.
واشتهرت بيبلوس بصناعة
السفن الفينيقية من خشب
أشجار الأرز وصناعة الفخار
فوق الدولاب (العجلة). عثر
بها علي معبد بعلة جيل ربة
بيبلوس ومعابد أخري ومسرح
روماني مدرج وحمامات.
Byblos ou Biblos (appelée aussi Goubla dans les
textes cunéiformes, Βύϐλος en grec ancien,
Gebal dans l'Ancien Testament, Giblet pendant les
croisades, Jbeil en arabe1) est une ville
libanaise située à 37 km au nord de Beyrouth.
Avec son antique port de pêche, son site romain
et son château croisé, Byblos est une des
vieilles villes du monde continuellement habitée.
Ce fut également un lieu de rencontre éminemment
à la mode pour la jet set du monde entier avant
la guerre civile
Byblos (griech. Βύβλος, assyrisch Gubla,
arabisch: جبيل Dschubail) ist eine antike
phönizische Hafenstadt. Sie liegt nördlich von
Beirut, am Mittelmeer, im heutigen Libanon.
