Sony DCR-HC27 Camera Test
Trying out a new DCR-HC27 which is a cheap
domestic miniDV camcroder from Sony at around
£190.00 on high street stores (I got mine down to
£170.00 from Jessops). Its attached to the car
using a suction cup adapted to hold the camcorder.
The image was mirrored on the incar view as it was
suspended upside down.
This was converted in Windows Media Player to WMV
at 2.1mbs
Pro's (+)
Its Small
Light weight
LCD Touch Screen is cool
Nightshot (0 lux) does film in pitch black
Battery life is long (stated 60mins in manual, but
it currently holds for 100mins)
Easy to transfer to PC (as with most miniDV
camcorders, firewire required!!)
Con's (-)
No microphone socket for external microphone
No remote control
Nightshot is only good at night up to 5 mtrs
Buttons are small on touch screen
Tape mechanism gives off noticeable level of noise

How to get video from your Sony DCR to your PC
----------------
You need firewire sockets on your PC as the
transfer rate to capture video is too high for USB
(without firewire you can only capture still
images). If you have firewire, your sorted! All
you need is the iLink DV (4pin) to Firewire (6pin)
cable to attach the camcorder to your PC, once you
do you can either capture the video with the free
Windows Movie Maker software or the Sony software
that comes with the camcorder.
Heres a link on Amazon to the cable you need,
although there is plenty of manufacturers - you
dont have to go for this belkin one!;

If you have quite a recent PC or laptop it may
have an iLink DV socket already, so no need for
firewire - if so you can get this cable;

Hope that all helps, need any help just give me a
shout and I'll be happy to help! Tags : Sony DCR-HC27 Camera Test Review camcroder miniDV nightshot plus lux |

| Sony DCR-SR200, VCL-R2037 S Tele Lens X 2.0, and The Moon |
 |
Testing my Sony DCR-SR200 camcorder equipped with
the Sony VCL-R2037 S Tele Conversion X 2.0 Lens.
Some notes...
See the man on the moon!
All footage was well into the digital zoom realm
of the camera. Maximum telephoto zoom was reached
in this demo: X 160. One of the trickiest parts
was finding out how fast the moon actually moves
at this range; needed to reposition the tripod
settings every few moments.
With regards to the lens, when attached to the
camera, a tripod is a near must. I believe it
somehow messes up or even disables the Sony
SteadyShot picture stabilization function.
Editing involved slightly lessening of brightness.
Oooh! Aaah! Look at those craters on the moon!
^_^
Summary about the camera: it's no Hubble space
telescope but it's fine for the usual
non-professional Earth videos. The lens gives a
fine boost in zoom effectively doubling the 10x
optical 80x digital but like I mentioned earlier
image stabilization is an issue - need a tripod to
make full use of it. Tags : product review sony dcr-sr200 VCL-R2037S telephoto lens video camcorder moon zoom test gadget camera scary maze game |
