| World Premiere"Serenade for Solo Clarinet&Band"Jn.Edmondson |
 |
"Serenade" for Solo Clarinet and Band, written in
2007, was commissioned by the Wilson Junior High
School Band of El Centro, California, directed by
Mitch Sturman. It is dedicated to the memory of
Anthony Gigliotti, 1922-2001, foremost American
clarinetist and teacher, who was Principal
Clarinetist of the Philadelphia Orchestra from
1949-1996. He was Mr. Sturman's instructor at the
Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. This is
the world premiere performance, the principle work
of this "Tribute to John Edmondson" concert. (My
apologies-there are 17 flutes playing in this
performance-ranging from age 11 to 15). Copyright

This year we will have the honor of premeiring
Anne McGinty's very beautiful-should I say
haunting-"Ballade for Solo Flute and Band". Along
with the "Ballade" we will also be premiering
works by local composers-George Scott's "Chestnut
Hill Overture", Brooke Kofford's "Wilson Waltz",
and the work "Song of Spring" by a very talented
17 year old composer from Colorado Springs, Co,
Alyssa J. Robb. The concert will be held on
Thursday evening, May 29th, in the brand new 29
million dollar Wilson Junior High School
Gymnasium, 600 S. Wilson, El Centro, CA, 92243.
This facility has outstanding accoustics. Tickets
are $5.00, with all proceeds going to the band. We
surely welcome any of you who would like to
attend.
