Canon HF10 vs Xacti DMX HD1000 Below!

getting this out, but I was getting killed at
work...
さて。、やっとCanonHF10にして、ディ
タルビデオカメラを買いました！但
、今回の動画はそのカメラのレビュ
ーじゃなくて、日本での楽しい電化
品の探し方を紹介したいと思ってい
す。
So, I finally decided to get a digital video
camera, the Canon HF10. But for this video, rather
than a review of the camera, I wanted to show you
a fun way of shopping for electronic appliances
here in Japan.
基本的に、自分の場合は4つのステッ

Basically, I go through four steps myself:
ステップ１：雑誌
Step 1: Magazines
日本は数多くの電化製品の専門の雑
があります。製品にも、日本語にも
しくなくても、こういう雑誌は分か
りやすく新製品を紹介し、とても役

Japan has dozens of great magazines that
specialize in the latest gadgets. Although in
Japanese, these are presented in formats that are
easy to follow even with minimal Japanese ability,
showing specifications, comparisons, scores, and
using lots of photos and graphics. I like to read

Dime
ステップ２：知人に相談
Step 2: Talk to People Who Know
一番探しやすい知人は大手の電化製
の専門店のスタフです。お客さんに
したものを選ぶのが研修されるし、
幅広く製品が並んでいるので、その
品の特徴と違いに詳しいはずです。
た、自分の場合に日本の有名なYouTub
er、Tokyocooneyさんにも相談して、彼は
分で使っています。

The best place to find someone who knows how to
match gadgets up to customers are the staff in big
electronics chains. The big shops usually stock
every kind of model for a product, and staff are
trained in matching customers up to the right
product and showing you the differences between
products, so it is great to go there, check things
out and talk to people. Also many thanks to Tokyo
Cooney for his advice, which was in his case to

Pick a product and find where to buy it. I like to

ステップ４：買いましょう！
Step 4: Go Get It!
東京の中で足を運んで行ける店をよ
選びます。この場合は秋葉原の裏道
あるPC
Selectという店にしました。よくこう
う怪しいところで店探すのも楽しい
分の一つとなります。
I like to go to shops in Tokyo with a storefront I
can find. Often these are small shops hidden away
in Akihabara. Finding the shops with a map and a
phone number, hidden on top of a few floors of
dodgy anime shops can be half the fun.

I'll show you a test drive of this camera and
compare it to other cameras you can use to make
YouTube vids next week, and see if this Camera is
worth the outlay to get it!

The Xacti is smaller, a nice shape, and takes
videos in standard as well as hi-definition, which
is good for YouTube because HD is hard to edit and
unnecessary for YouTube 640x480 resolution. So why
did I get the Canon?
- Canon has the best optics going of any digital
video camera in this category right now. Panasonic
and Sony have good competitors, but I have used
and like Canon, and most reviewers seem to agree
that Canon is the leader right now.
- I want to take surfing and rugby vids, not just
YouTube ones, so optics are important to me for
that.
- For size, the new Xacti isn't THAT compact. It
is much bigger than previous Xactis (that
optically, are just toys) and doesn't exactly fit
comfortably into your jeans pocket. The Canon is
plenty small to unnoticably fit into any rucksack
or bag.
Anyway, that is why I chose. The big test is next
week!

| Canon Vixia HF10 review |

The Canon Vixia HF10 AVCHD camcorder is a cool
little camera but has some drawbacks. The HF10
has 16gb of built-in memory and also uses SDHC
flash cards to record high-def video. The format
is hard to edit, though. Sound is from built-in
HF10 mics in the wide shots and from an ATR35s
wired lav in the long shots. Full review at

So at long last, the test has been done, so here
are my cameras

Pentax Optio WPi 6 Megapixel digital camera
The Logicool Orbit AF QCAM-200R I always use for
making vids
And... the Canon HF10 HD camera.
Just so you know, I always edit my vids with Corel
VideoStudio 12, which can edit AVCHD HD video, and
has a YouTube high quality automatic output
setting that outputs in 640x480 H.264 format.
However, today I took no chances. To ensure
maximum quality, I outputted this video at with
the following settings:

に、さらに高画質の設定を自分で入
ました。

640x480, 30fps, 4MPS (the highest possible output
setting),
In spite of this, the video still looks rubbish in
standard resolution (I'd love to know how people
get videos sharp in standard resolution) so PLEASE
WATCH IN HIGH RESOLUTION! Then you can see the
value of the HD camera shine through.
