| E-Paper Mobile Phone Keypad - DoCoMo : DigInfo |
 |
http://movie.diginfo.tv DigInfo
Docomo has developed a prototype handset which
features an e-paper keypad, which allows the keys
to display different characters depending on the
context or application which is running. The
e-paper, developed by SiPix Imaging, is different
to electronic ink in that the paper uses small
chambers, called microcups, which are filled with
white particles and a coloured liquid, allowing
the e-paper to display two colours. When using the
calculator feature on the phone, the regular
function keys at the top of the keypad can also
change into mathematical symbols. Docomo has been
researching an e-paper keypad for 2 years and hope
to harness this technology to make mobile phones
easier to use by the elderly and those not
accustomed to using a mobile phone. Currently the
keypad can only display three different characters
in one button area and there is a also delay of
about a second when changing from one character
set to another, Docomo plans to improve these two
issues before making the technology commercially
available. Tags : diginfo docomo e-paper e-ink keypad display mobile phone cell keitai sipix character set electronic paper ink japan |
