San Francisco artist Eric Joyner is known for his
oils based on the secret lives of robots and their
passion for donuts. Joyner's latest series of
paintings also involve Japanese monsters who
provide a keen sense of doom, not that the robots
seem worried. There is also a fair bit of flying
saucer imagery, leading the viewer to wonder about
the relationship between the robots and aliens
from outer space. Eric Joyner has created a whole
new world of colour and zaniness, but the robots
look so very serious. It is all too good.
On the other side of the Sun there is a mirror
planet called Tin World. A thousand years ago they
were invaded by giant donuts from another world.
Over the past thousand years they have fought,
battles have ended, but never any lasting peace.
They have this never-ending struggle because:
A) the donuts feed on the robots.
B) The robots don't want to be feed.
Anyway, this is the thought in my head.
