Micro and nanotechnologies are revolutionising
medicine
'Almost invisible' tools are being developed by
European researchers to discover diseases earlier
and to treat patients better. The miniaturisation
of instruments to micro and nano dimensions
promises to make our future lives safer and
cleaner. A team of European researchers from the
Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Technologies
Institute near Saarbruecken is using
nanotechnology to improve diagnostic capabilities.
In the "Adonis"-project, nano-sized gold particles
are used to detect prostate cancer cells at an
early stage. Tags :eutubeEUcommissionEuropeannanotechnologiesresearch
Morph is a concept demonstrating some of the
possibilities nanotechnologies might enable in
future communication devices. Morph can sense its
environment, is energy harvesting and self
cleaning .
Morph is a flexible two-piece device that can
adapt its shape to different use modes.
Nanotechnology enables to have adaptive materials
yet rigid forms on demand.
It is also featured in the MoMA online exhibition
"Design and the Elastic Mind". It has been a
collaboration project of Nokia Research Center and
Cambridge Nanoscience Center.

Technology on a tiny scale has the potential for
massive benefits for consumers, but we're calling
for a proper understanding of the risks. Our video
explains what nanotechnologies are and how they
could effect consumers. Find out more at:
