Rod Temperton could do a funky thing on Central
Heating?
The fabulous UK Band Heatwave made two albums with
the musicians you get on this album. Both are R&B
gems but I prefer this one. Why? No flaws, it's
that simple.
I got it in 77 when it came out in Holland, two
years later bought me a second copy cause the
first one's grooves were gone. Then the cd.
It is funky and happy R&B music, with tight
playing, almost no horns (except for an occasional
toot here and there and a nice trombone solo on
Happiness Togetherness). Not that you'd miss them
for a second.
The Groove Line, Put The Word Out, Central
Heating, Party Poops are the up-tempo dance
tracks, Send Out For Sunshine and Mind Blowing
Decisions (my favorites) great mid-tempos,
Happiness Togetherness (another favorite), Star Of
A Story and Leavin' For A Dream, wonderful
ballads. Great lead vocals (Johnny Wilder Jr. and
his brother Keith Wilder) and harmonies, terrific
guitar, bass, drums, percussion, keys.
The songwriting is top notch. Beautiful ballads,
good stompers, most written by Rod. Quincy must
have loved this one too because a little later
they started working together on Michael's albums,
George Benson, Brothers Johnson etc.
So, get it (if not available here, try

Brothers. Michael Breker e Randy Braker Michael
Breker inizialmente studiò clarinetto, passando
poi al sax alto ed infine al tenore durante le
scuole superiori. Si iscrisse alla Indiana
University, esplorando sia la scuola di musica sia
la facoltà di medicina, prima di decidere che
preferiva suonare piuttosto che passare il tempo
nelle aule universitarie. Nel 1970 Michael si
trasferì a New York, partecipando alla scena jazz
e entrando nel gruppo jazz-rock Dreams (con il
fratello maggiore Randy alla tromba, il batterista
Billy Cobham, il trombonista Barry Roger, Jeff
Kent e Doug Lubahn).Dopo questa breve esperienza
ebbe l'opportunità di suonare con Horace Silver e
Billy Cobham, prima di formare con suo fratello
Randy il gruppo Jazz Rock Brecker Brothers Band.
Il gruppo, che durò con discreto successo dal
1975 al 1982, suonava una jazzrock in stile
Weather Report, con una grande attenzione agli
arrangiamenti ed alle ritmiche rock.
Fin dagli inizi della sua carriera non smise mai
di suonare come collaboratore o semplice turnista
in sala di incisione, con musicisti e gruppi di
grande rilievo, sia in ambito jazz che rock. In
effetti fino al suo debutto come solista, Brecker
era soprattutto noto per il suo lavoro di studio,
partecipando a moltissimi album di cantautori e
complessi pop, tra cui quelli di Jackson Browne,
Funkadelic James Taylor, Steely Dan, Donald Fagen
e Joni Mitchell (memorabile la tournée di Shadows
and Light insieme ad un giovanissimo Pat Metheny e
Jaco Pastorius). Da segnalare la collaborazione
del 1978 con Frank Zappa (nell'album doppio dal
vivo Zappa in New York) e le apparizioni nei primi
anni '80 con la band del noto programma televisivo
Saturday Night Live.
Il suo stile musicale fu dunque influenzato anche
dalle sue frequentazioni pop. Brecker, seguendo la
lezione del jazzrock di Miles Davis e dei primi
Weather Report, era un jazzista che vedeva il rock

finds guitarist Al DiMeola debuting with the
pacesetting fusion quartet, an influential unit
that also featured keyboardist Chick Corea,
electric bassist Stanley Clarke and drummer Lenny
White. On this high energy set, short interludes
separate the main pieces: "Vulcan Worlds," "The
Shadow of Lo," "Beyond the Seventh Galaxy," "Earth
Juice" and the lengthy "Song to the Pharoah
Kings." Acoustic purists are advised to avoid this
music, but listeners who grew up on rock and wish
to explore jazz will find this stimulating music

Play that funky music by Wild Cherry 1976. Il 18
settembre 1976 al vertice della classifica dei
dischi più venduti negli Stati Uniti svetta il
brano Play that funky music. Ne sono interpreti i
Wild Cherry, una band formata a Steubenville,
nell'Ohio, nella prima metà degli anni Settanta
dal cantante e chitarrista Bob Parissi, dal
chitarrista Bryan Bassett, dal bassista Allen
Wentz, dal batterista Ron Beitie e dal tastierista
Marc Avsec.Il loro funk, è originalissimo,
ironico, molto ben suonato. Il successo di Play
that funky music accompagna quello del loro primo
album, pubblicato con il solo nome della band in
copertina. La critica, pur apprezzando il loro
buon taglio stilistico. Play that funky music si
dimostra invece essere il primo passo della
definitiva affermazioni di una funky white band
dalle grandi possibilità . Play That Funky Music,
un brano che ha destinato Wild Cherry ad essere
ricordate come uno delle grandi band dell' white
