Many Mac OS X users wish to retain their Windows
favourite, Winamp. It's a highly versatile music
player that supports more music formats than
anything else (and that's thanks in no small part
to the obscure chiptune plugins, I guess) I have
seen so far.
However, the Mac/Unix versions were halted in
development and thus WinAmp truly lives up to its
name as a Windows only program.
However, the WINE project and subsequently
CrossOver have been able to run WinAmp acceptably
under X11 and Mac OS X for some time now, so now
Intel Mac users are no longer left in the dark.
I chose to demonstrate CrossOver here, because it
is a very worthwhile program that contributes code
back to WINE all the time. WINE may be too
difficult for inexperienced users to deal with.
