| Su-37 extreme manuevrability demo |
 |
The Su-37 is a super-maneuverable thrust vectoring
russian fighter derived from an Su-35 prototype.
This demo shows the pilot literally throwing 20
tons of military metal in the sky. Two Lyulka
AL-37FU vectored-thrust afterburning turbofans
(30,855 lb thrust each) give this aircraft it's
extreme flight caracteristics that are above the
flight envelope of almost any fighters curently in
service in the world. The AL-37FU engines are
configured for thrust vector control, with the
axisymmetric steerable thrust vector control
nozzle is fixed on a circular turning unit. The
steel nozzle in the experimental engines is
replaced in production engines by titanium units
to reduce the weight of the nozzle. The nozzle
only moves in the pitch axis, and the nozzles on
the two engines can deflect together or
differentially to achieve the desired thrust
vector for a particular maneuver.
The Su-37 has a variety of other innovative
equipment such as a radar configured for
simultaneous surveillance of airspace and the
ground and a high-precision
laser-inertial/satellite navigation system. The
all-weather digital multi-mode phased array radar
operates in either air and ground surveillance
modes or in both modes simultaneously. Ground
surveillance modes include mapping (with Doppler
beam sharpening), search-and-track of moving
targets, synthetic aperature radar and terrain
avoidance. The Su-37 is also equipped with a
rearward facing radar in the tail stinger area of
the fuselage. The Su-37 features fly-by-wire and
relaxed static instability, which along with 3D
thrust vectoring give the aircraft tremendous
agility. It incorporates state of the art ECM in
wing-tip pods, allowing improved survivability in
electronic warfare environments. The Su-37 can
carry air-to-air and air-to-surface weapons on 12
stations. The number of missiles and bombs carried
can be increased to 14 with the use of
multi-payload racks.
Sukhoi used payments earned in the sale of an
Su-27 license to China to finance the Su-37
development. Russia's Air Force has not ordered
any Su-37s. Sukhoi is studying the possibility of
developing a two-seat version of the Su-37 with
enhanced strike capabilities. Tags : Su-37 Sukhoi 37 fighter russian jet demo manuevrability thrust vectoring Kobra Kulbit |

| Far Cry 2 - Map Editor Demo |

Forge? What Forge?
Prepare to be amazed...
OVERVIEW:
Far Cry 2 is an upcoming first person shooter
published by Ubisoft and is the sequel to Far Cry.
Crytek, developers of the original game, are not
involved in the development of Far Cry 2.
GAMEPLAY:
The game will be entirely open-ended and
non-linear. Instead of using individual maps, the
game will take place in a sprawling nondescript
land in Africa, with terrain ranging from wild
savannah to dense jungle. The two areas of
gameplay will be around 50km2 in size. Some
members of the Ubisoft Montreal team spent 2 weeks
in several locations in Africa filming and
photographing native wildlife. The team will use
the animal footage and environment photos to
create an extremely realistic environment.
The protagonist of previous Far Cry games, Jack
Carver, will not be featured in this game. When
Ubisoft interviewed players about the original Far
Cry in their research for this game, the
interviewees didn't find the character very
memorable or likeable. As a result, in the sequel
the player will be able to choose from around 9
different characters to play, each with a unique
look and back story. All of the playable
characters will be different types of mercenaries.
The characters the player does not choose to play
will become in-game characters who are friends of
the player's character.
The goal of the player's character will be to find
and assassinate 'The Jackal', an arms dealer that
has been selling weapons to both sides of the
conflict that's tearing apart a small country. The
way this is done, however is entirely up to the
player, being possible to ally with anyone he/she
chooses.
Various factions and vehicles will be featured;
enemies will include human mercenaries, but sci-fi
creatures such as the mutants from Far Cry will
not be featured. Furthermore, the player's feral
abilities introduced in Far Cry Instincts and its
expansions will not be returning in Far Cry 2. A
dynamic weather system has been added that varies
the weather based on the players ability - if the
player is doing exceptionally well the sky will be
clear and sunny, but if problems arise the sky
will become dark and stormy.
The game's producer, Louis-Pierre Pharand, says
that the single player will "potentially have
close to 50 hours of game play."
MULTIPLAYER:
Far Cry 2 will feature 14 different multiplayer
maps with a wide variety of different
environments.
There are 4 multiplayer modes in total. These
modes are:
DEATHMATCH - your standard free-for-all
TEAM DEATHMATCH - does what it says on the tin
CAPTURE THE DIAMOND - essentially capture the flag
UPRISING - There is speculation that this is going
to be similar to the timed 'Assault' mode that was
on the original Far Cry on PC
THE DUNIA ENGINE:
Ubisoft has developed a new engine specifically
for Far Cry 2, called Dunia, meaning 'world' or
'earth' in many languages including Persian,
Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Arabic, Marathi, Bengali,
Swahili, Assyrian, Indonesian and Malay. The
engine will take advantage of multi-core
processors and support DirectX 9 as well as
DirectX 10. Only 2 or 3 percent of the original
CryENGINE code is being re-used, according to
Michiel Verheijdt, Senior Product Manager for
Ubisoft Netherlands.
Far Cry 2 will also support the Ambx-technology
from Philips. With the proper hardware, this adds
effects like vibrations, ambient coloured lights,
and fans that generate wind effects. The agreement
will also see an amBX patch being released for the
original Far Cry.
Far Cry 2 is scheduled for release fall 2008

| Will Wright and Brian Eno - Spore Creature Demo |

"The Sims" designer Will Wright demonstrates the
character-creation phase from his latest game,
"Spore," with additional commentary by musician
Brian Eno.
-----
Will Wright and Brian Eno on "Playing with Time."
In a dazzling duet Will Wright and Brian Eno give
an intense clinic on the joys and techniques of
"generative" creation.
Back in the 1970s both speakers got hooked by
cellular automata such as Conway's "Game of Life,"
where just a few simple rules could unleash
profoundly unpredictable and infinitely varied
dynamic patterns. Cellular automata were the
secret ingredient of Wright's genre-busting
computer game "SimCity" in 1989. Eno was
additionally inspired by Steve Reich's "It's Gonna
Rain," in which two identical 1.8 second tape
loops beat against each other out of phase for a
riveting 20 minutes. That idea led to Eno's "Music
for Airports" (1978), and the genre he named
"ambient music" was born.
